The Beehive Hotel Rome

The Beehive Cafe in 2009

The Beehive Hotel is a gem and I am a little hesitant to write about it, as it is already very popular. In fact, I had an alarm on my Blackberry to remind me that today I had to book as you can not make a reservation earlier than 6 months prior to your stay. Today is exactly 6 months till we arrive in Rome, Italy!

Steve and Linda own The Beehive Hotel & Cafe which they opened in May 1999, after leaving their LA home with their cat. They run a welcoming, environmentally conscious hotel in an ultra convenient location (only 2 blocks from Rome’s Termini Station – main train station) and 30 mins from Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) Airport by train.

The Beehive has no TVs but instead has handmade plant based soaps (great souvenir gifts), free internet and WiFi and a cosy loungeroom with free English newspapers and magazines. Adjoining the lounge is a gorgeous vegetarian cafe. When I was there last, we had several delicious dinners (including organic red wine). The website now says the cafe is no longer open for dinner but is still open for breakfasts and Sunday lunches.

This is home away from home, the staff are so friendly and accommodating and last time I visited they even recognised me! The only thing I am disappointed about with my September visit is that we are on a strict timetable so we can only stay 1 night!

The Address: Via Marghera, 8 – 2 blocks from Termini Station.

PS There are some great shops at Termini Station!

E vero!
I totally agree!
The Beehive is fantastic find. I’ve stayed there for the last three years and looking forward to staying again in October.
It’s a great place to drop off your bags and then hit the ground running in fabulous Roma…

I will miss you by a few weeks, at least we won’t be fighting over the double room with 2 singles! Can’t wait to check out what shops are at Termini Station this year and I hope the station cafe is still there with the croissants and great coffee! Can you remember what that is called?

I love the Beehive! We stayed there in 2000 just after they opened, and I’m so happy to see that they are still in operation! Next time we go, we will definately stay there!
